Ecothrifty Living
Make greener, healthier choices while saving money.

Over the years a lot of research has been done to test the chemicals that we bring into our homes.

Asthma attacks, skin allergies and cancer risk are just a few things that have been reported.

To talk to us about what we use in our homes to clean, we will have local author:

Deborah Niemann

She will be at the Normal location on December 10th at 7:00pm
We will be providing, cake (gluten free and vegan), snacks and drinks.

Acure is here!

We were all extremely excited to get in Acure products. We wanted to buy everything before it ever even made it onto the floor. There were all kinds of skin and hair products with pretty (and eco-friendly!) packaging. Acure is family owned and operated, and their products are 100% natural and fair trade certified. Plus, their ingredients are organic! Looking at their products and ingredients, it's obvious that they have the real needs of your skin and hair in mind. Their goals are to create high-quality skincare, maintain a sustainable company, and help eliminate our exposure to harmful chemicals in cosmetics. Acure is definitely a brand you can feel good about buying, both for the health of your skin and your conscience. Many of the shampoos and conditioners are disappearing off the shelves quickly to employees as word spreads about how wonderful it is. As if all of this isn't great enough, Acure donates 5% of the retail price of their products to charity to help fight breast and ovarian cancer. Come on in to check Acure out - don't be surprised if we can't stop touching our hair.

"You'd be surprised how sensitive scaly skin can be!" -Todd

Suja!

We recently got Suja juices in stock here at Naturally Yours, and they've piqued the curiosity of all the employees. Suja is popular both for juice cleansing and for a healthy snack. With lots of fruits and veggies packed into every bottle, it's a great and convenient way to add servings to your daily intake. They're all organic, cold-pressed, and from what we've tasted, it's also refreshing and delicious! The Master Cleanse juice (water, maple syrup, lemon, cayenne) was tasty and very spicy. It's the same combination that Beyoncé has used, so we enjoyed the cayenne burn. The Fiji juice (apple, celery, cucumber, spinach, collard greens, kale, lemon, ginger) tastes so fresh, it's like we juiced it ourselves. We're excited to try every flavor!

Right now, all flavors of Suja are 50% off! Hurry in to try some!

Todd is caught up in the excitement!

GMO Awareness Month

 October is Non GMO month.
As a health food store (and the largest health food store in central IL) we are cerebrating this month! The stores are filled with food that is certified as non GMO.

Peoria has decorated the store with the butterfly logo for the nongmoproject.org.

Normal also is decorated in celebration and we are showing a documentary called "Genetic Roulette"  everyday.

To help out our communities we are taking grocery donations for the local food banks and shelters, we are taking donations for non GMO items in the stores. If you donate 2 or more non GMO certified items, the cashier will give you are $5.00 of $35.00 or more coupon!
 (only one per customer please)

GMOs are Genetically Modified Organisms. The overall awareness of what we are eating and the right to know what has been placed in our foods is important to us here. Many of us here avoid GMO foods and eat as much organic as we can. Most people who work in the natural health industry have a story of how they got involved in a more natural life style.

Ask any employee at Naturally Yours...
I wont go into all the details here about GMO, but if you are interested there are plenty of resources out there to read, watch and listen to. Stop by and check out the selection of non GMO items in the stores! Talk to some staff about what you think and your opinions on the subject. Leave a few comments here too!

You can follow the non GMO project on Facebook, Twitter and their website http://www.nongmoproject.org/

Bittersweet day here at Naturally Yours Grocery in Normal... our interim general manager's last day is tomorrow and our new general manager takes over on Monday! While we are excited to have Donna moving up in the company... Colton will be greatly missed.

So how does a grocery store celebrate our gains and losses? Food of course!!! Everyone showing off their cooking skills (except for that one person who brought chips and dip). A wonderful homemade kale salad that we might try making for the store, some perfectly made stuffed dates, local swiss cheese and a healthy fruit dip just to name a few!

And after all this there was homemade vegan cake. Forgive us if we are walking a bit slower around the store today and wanting naps.

Among other news!!!
We have some of our favorite products back in stock:
Zion Health clay shampoo and conditioner are filling their own shelf again.

Dandy Blend coffee substitute is in stock.
Navitas cacao nibs, cacao beans and cacao powder if fully stocked.
Nordic Naturals and some other supplement product lines....

That is all for today. We will be back tomorrow with more news!
